The Bristol Evening Post has done a great article on 'Typo' and the museum. If you pick up a copy, it's on page 4 (at least in the edition we get down here).

Current exhibitions

A message from Mclevey's management team:

RE: Recent acquisition at Bristol Museum
Dear Sir and/or Madam,

I am writing to inform you that your newest acquisition is a piece
entitled 'Typo'. The 24" x 36" canvas, depicting a monkey chained to a
typewriter, is a painting by Mclevey. Dating from 2008, it was done in
acrylic, enamel, and ink.

We do sincerely hope you and your patrons enjoy this piece, and we
thank you for the careful mounting you have provided. While caged
monkeys make wonderful painters, they are rather poor at handling any
kind of security.

Should you have any questions regarding the piece or the artist,
please feel free to contact me at jen -at- mclevey.com or by phone on
07XXX XXX XXX.

Best wishes,

Jen Barnett

Does this apply to museums, as well?

Did you know

Littering

It is an offence to drop, throw, deposit or leave litter under Section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Litter is defined to included all smoking related litter, such as cigarette ends. It also includes discarded chewing gum.

What we can do

Our Street Scene Enforcement Team have the power to take action against those who drop litter by issuing a Fixed Penalty Notice.

A Fixed Penalty Notice is an on the spot fine of £75.00. If you are given a Fixed Penalty Notice you have 14 days to pay the fine.

Money collected from Fixed Penalty Notices gets put back into the Street Scene Enforcement Team to aid the continued tracking and prevention of environmental crimes.

If you wish to discuss your Fixed Penalty Notice please contract Recovery Services on 0117 922 3835 who will be more than happy to answer your questions.

If you fail to pay the Fixed Penalty Notice of £75, we will take prosecution action against you in the Magistrates Court.

The maximum penalty on conviction for this offence is £2,500. If found guilty, you will also be given a criminal record.

What you can do

Use the litter bins provided in the streets. Do not leave single black bin bags out on the street as this is classed as littering. Store your waste correctly and use the appropriate services for your waste.

Monkey see, Monkey do?

Who is Mclevey?

Why did he do it?

Can I buy him a drink?

All this and more... soon.

(Except the last one. The last one's always a yes!)

Missing in action

As of 4pm yesterday (13 June 2009), the Mclevey canvas 'Typo' is missing in action. Any sightings of this piece should be promptly reported to museum@mclevey.com

It was last seen near a painting monkey, who seemed to take a shine for the subject of the piece.

People are warned that animatronic monkeys, especially those with paintbrushes, have been known to cause serious damage to the kidneys. As such, it is recommended that you leave only footprints and take only photos.
